
DIRECTOR, MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Location: Abuja
Position Purpose
In this role you will take a leading role in both sales and marketing, as well as developing new business opportunities
for Vanoji power projects and services. Responsibilities include market and customer analysis, building business cases, acquiring customers, and proposal writing leadership. The incumbent will also participate in managing sales, and development and execution of contracts related to electricity sales, renewable energy credit sales and process steam sales. The incumbent will direct all customer related activities and manage a portfolio of developing project sales opportunities. This position will work closely with the financial team to maximize Vanoji revenue opportunities.
In this critical role, you will develop company presentations, lead pitch teams, and manage customer development activities in a hands on, relationship based way. The candidate will also lead company efforts in domestic project proposal writing, leveraging a team of experienced market associates and analysts. This position will help build the sales and marketing team to further support domestic sales opportunities in both utility and non-utility markets.
Accountabilities
• Market and customer analysis to define and size potential opportunities, leading directly to customer acquisition and culminating in closed business
• Participate in negotiations of power purchase agreements (PPAs), renewable energy credit sales, and turnkey power plant sales in utility and commercial customers; work closely with the technical, finance and legal teams to ensure contracts support technically viable, financeable, and profitable projects
• Take a lead role in developing proposals for long term energy supply, steam supply, and renewable energy credit sales; develop proposals for turnkey sales of power plants and related equipment to utility and non-utility customers; work with multiple team members to ensure a high quality product that is responsive to the request
• Manage existing team of sales and marketing analysts, and build and lead team to support domestic non-utility and utility sales
• Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing customers
• Manage contract issues from execution until commercial operation
• Participate in solar and other renewable energy conferences for education and business development
• Develop company presentations and lead pitch teams
Requirements/Qualities
• The successful applicant will have 5+ years of experience in marketing and origination of energy purchase and sale transactions and / or energy production equipment such as PV systems
• Proven track record of opening doors and closing deals with both large and small companies
• Strong analytics; rigorous, data-driven decision making; and excellent business judgment
• Strong interpersonal, negotiating, and communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations to senior management
• Team player with an ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing start-up environment.
• Travel requirement of up to 50%
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• B. Engineering or Business Administration
• General knowledge of power plants or related operations
• Passion for renewable energy and the environment
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Knowledge of the regulatory environment in Nigeria
